Rome Spanish Steps -- The Spanish Steps are a majestic series of three flights of steps that lead up to the impressive double-belltowered church, the Trinità dei Monti church. In Italian the steps are called Scalinata della Trinità dei Monti.

This complex can best be seen from far down the Via dei Condotti street. Tourists just sit on the steps to soak in the atmosphere and watch the street sellers and the charicature artists who work at the foot of the steps plying their skills.

Piazza di Spagna

The area around the Piazza di Spagna is a popular meeting place in the city centre of Rome. The square is connected by the Spanish Steps to the Piazza Trinità dei Monti, which is dominated by the Trinità dei Monti church. In the Renaissance period, the square was the most popular tourist attraction in the city.

The square is named after the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See. In the 17th century, the area around the embassy was even considered Spanish territory.

One of Rome's most celebrated fashion streets is located just opposite the square, called Via Condotti.

Colonna dell'Immacolata -- is a column found in 1777 under a monastery and is now topped with a statue of Virgin Mary. The colomn is located in the middle of the Piazza Mignanelli, right next to Piazza di Spagna. Every year on the 8th of December the Pope visits Piazza Mignanelli, in order to celebrate the Immaculate Conception.
