Several hotels offer you spacious family rooms, free Wi-Fi and air conditioning. More than a few decently-priced hotels have a swimming pool as well and provide countless amazing entertainment options for all your family members.

Popular cheaper accommodations or motel-style hotels include the Hotel Condal and Hotel Cortes.

The Neighbourhoods

The neighbourhoods in Barcelona are called "Barrios". If you put "Barrio" next to the name of the neighbourhood, people will be much helpful to tell you directions and advice about it. However, be careful when asking in native tongue, locals may try to explain in the same language!

If you are selecting which neighbourhood to use as your headquarters for your trip, then you will need to know where each is positioned and how expensive they are for a standard stay.

Cheap bed an breakfast solutions are available in most neighbourhoods, but be wary that such accommodation is often quickly taken in the more expensive zones. This is why planning is key when visiting Barcelona on a budget.

The Perfect Fit

Barceloneta Barrio is the seaside neighbourhood of Barcelona. You can find cheap accommodation here without a problem. It is close to the city centre, and linked with the metro. The homonymous station is just one stop away from the very heart of the Catalonian capital. If you want to, you can also walk to there; it shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes.

Barcelo Sants Neighbourhood is found just next to the busiest financial neighbourhood of the area (Les Corts). Its focal point is the Estacio de Sants train station, an excellent link to all nearby airports. The accommodation in this barrio is excellent for those traveling on a budged with actual prices of hostes reaching as low as 15 euro per night.

The areas of Bogatell and Ciutadella is the region where you can reach the famous Bogatell beach by foot. The Port Olympic area is also a walk away. To reach the very centre of Barcelona, you can take the Yellow line metro. The trip is just 10 minutes long.

Eixample District (both the left and the right parts) is the shopping place for all tourists. If you have decided to spend some cash in the Catalonian capital, then you must stay in the nearest neighbourhood. This is it. Bars, the Sagrada Familia, the Gaudi's Casa Batllo, and many others are in this area. The roads are grid-like, and you can travel to every part of town within minutes.

El Born Barrio - Offers culture and traditional buildings close to Barcelona centre. The area is close to the beach, and has good night life, restaurants and bars. Lower accommodation prices and excellent groceries, the Poble Sec barrio is great for those who want to be away from the busy life, but close enough to visit it daily. The trip with the metro is just 10-minutes long.

If you are coming to Barcelona for the architecture, then the Barri Gotic Quarter, also known as the Old City, is an ideal destination. Not only, but it also has some excellent accommodation options. However, they are quickly taken. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay, better make an early reservation. Otherwise, you may have to splurge.

There are no better views of Barcelona than the one you get at the top of the mountain in Montjuïc. Full of tourist attractions and sightseeing possibilities, this barrio is excellent for the lovers of clean air and lovely neighbours.

Accomodation ranges from 30 euro to over a hundred per night. Here, you can find the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, the Poble Espanyol, and the MNAC museum. A short walk away from the hill is the Barcelona Olympic stadium.

The Unlikely Areas

El Raval is the darker and shady place in Barcelona. If there is a barrio in Spain that looks attractive, but needs caution when crossing, this is it. Although hostels and guests houses in the area are cheap, the place is good only for seasoned travellers. It is not the cleanest nor the safest locations. However, it is a very beautiful one, if you are into cultural tourism.

As already mentioned, Les Corts is the financial district. There, you will not find many low-cost accommodation options, nor the best of cultural characteristics. Tourist attractions are rare. The district focuses on shopping, financial institutions, banks, has the L'Illa shopping complex, top-range restaurants and bars.

There is nothing more modern in Barcelona than the Port Olympic. This is the stylish area of beaches and high-class resorts of the city. You have excellent access to those resorts, as well as the Olympic Games regeneration programme area found nearby. Hotels here are not of the cheapest, as they focus on catering to the clients who don't come on a budget.

Gracia Barrio – a former independent town, which is now a part of the big capital. The crowd is nice, but tight. With a mainly elderly population and a tendency to lack the usual welcoming attitude toward strangers, this is probably a good place to visit, but not to stay in. However, it is possible to find mid-range price accommodation in it.
