The race track at Silverstone was built on the site of the World War II air base, RAF Silverstone. Three runways were laid out in triangular formation, allowing for the easy construction of the first race track.

The present track was laid out between the 1990 and 1991 race seasons, with only a few safety modifications since.

# By train : There two main railway stations near Silverstone; Northampton and Milton Keynes. Northampton is about 33km (20mi) away from the circuit and Milton Keynes a little closer. However, there is no public transportation from there to the circuit, making cabs the only option.
