Downtown - Main Squares

Krakow City Center is formed by the Old Town district which include Kraków Old Town, as well as the Wawel castle hill, Nowe Miasto ("New Town"), Nowy Świat ("New World"), Kleparz, and Okół. Another city centre area is Kazimierz, situated really close to the Old Town. Most of Krakow's historic buildings, palaces, churches, mansions, and other historic sites and landmarks are located within the old city centre.

Situated in the heart of the historic Cracow city centre is the Main Market Square. Located in the middle of the square is the Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) which is a symbol of Cracow. This trade hall has been famous since the early Middle Ages. A must is a visit to the Gallery of Polish Painting and Sculpture of the XIXth century and the Skalka Sanctuary, situated close to the historic city centre of Cracow.

At night, Krakow transforms into a fun abyss of clubs and restaurants.You can find plenty of places to have a good time. The city of Krakow is also known for having cozy and large night clubs.

Main Squares located in Krakow City Centre, Poland

Grand Square - Main Market Square or Rynek Główny w Krakowie -- main city square of the historical old town in Krakow Poland. The old plaza is surrounded by historical townhouses (kamienice), palaces and churches and is dominated in the center of the square by the Sukiennice or Cloth Hall (Drapers Hall). Several hotels can be found on or nearby the main Market Square.

Plac Szczepanski Square -- car free city centre square west of the Rynek Glowny with a foutain in the middle. Main buildings found here are the Wyspiański Museum, The Old Theatre or Teatr Stary, building of the Agricultural Society, and The Palace of Art (Palac Sztuki).

Small Market - Maly Rynek or Little Market Square -- originally the Butcher's Market. Situated nearby the Main Market sq. Between both squares is the Church of St Mary and the Church of St Barbara.

Ul Szeroka Square -- centre square of the Jewish quarter. Two of the most important synagogues are found here, the Old and the Remuh. Ul Szeroka is surrounded by cafes and restaurants with terraces.

Plac Nowy -- busy marketplace with popular nightlife and bars in the center of the Kazimierz district. Many hotels, cheaper hostels and charming bed and breakfasts can be found in this area such as Hotel Columbus and Hotel Kazimierz. Hotels in the former Jewish district are within walking distance of the Old Town and the historical Wawel Castle.
