St James Park - Newcastle United FC

St James' Park Football Stadium is the home ground of Newcastle United FC. It's the oldest football stadium in the North East and the sixth largest football stadium in the United Kingdom, with a capacity of between 52,387 and 52,409, behind Wembley stadium, Millennium Stadium in Wales, Celtic Park, Old Trafford and the Emirates Stadium.

The stadium is used also for rugby, international football, music concerts, and has been used as a set for film and reality television.

In 1930, St James’ Park recorded its highest attendance when 68,386 people visited a match between Newcastle and Chelsea FC. In 2011, St James Park was temporarily renamed Sports Direct Arena or SDA (the company of club owner Mike Ashley), with the aim to showcase the stadium’s marketing possibilities as to later definitely sell the stadium’s naming rights to another party.

Four main stands

Gallowgate End (officially the Newcastle Brown Ale Stand) at the southern end of the ground, named unofficially for its proximity to the old City gallows, and officially after the long association with the club of sponsor Scottish and Newcastle Breweries.

Leazes End (officially the Sir John Hall Stand), at the northern end of the ground, named unnofficially for its proximity to Leazes Park, and officially after the club's Life President Sir John Hall. The Singing Section is positioned in Level 7 of this stand.

Milburn Stand, the main stand, on the west side of the ground. Named after 1950s footballer Jackie Milburn.

East Stand is the smallest stand of the four located at the eastern end of the stadium. Following the death of Sir Bobby Robson, a plan to rename the East Stand the Sir Bobby Robson Stand (or the Robson Stand) was drawn up. As yet, this has not been made official.

Newcastle United offers guided stadium tours that include the changing rooms, dugouts, players’ tunnel, and the media suite. Tours typically run Mondays to Saturdays at 11:00 am and 1:30 pm, and Sundays at 11:30 am. On Saturday matchdays there is only one tour at 11:00.
