Vienna State Opera House -- The famous Vienna State Opera House is located in the first district of the city of Vienna in Austria at the southern end of the Kärntnerstrasse. August von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll built the Court Opera House from 1861 to 1869.

The Vienna State Opera has a world-wide reputation for its first-class opera performances and is also known because of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. A night at the State Opera is one of the most impressive events any visitor to beautiful Vienna can experience. The world famous Vienna Opera Ball, organized once a year, is a sought after event by the old and the young alike.

This opera house can hold 2276 spectators and it's performance stage is one of the largest in Europe. It was the first building erected on Vienna's Ringstraße when the old city's fortifications were torn down.

The Vienna State Opera House opened on 25 May 1869; the first performance at the state opera house was that of Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

The Vienna Opera building has several attractions such as the ‘Grand Staircase’ which is decorated with attractive chandeliers, marble statues and beautiful bronze statues by Ernt Julius Hahnel. The interiors are a marvel with frescoes by Moritz von Schwind. The operas and ballets that are staged here are of world class quality.

The Vienna State Opera Museum, at a little distance from the Vienna State Opera, has a record of all the performances in the last 50 years and is worth a visit in Vienna.

Air Connections -- Vienna International Airport is located to the southeast of Vienna. The airport handled over 254,000 arrivals and departures in 2007 and was frequented by 18.77 million passengers. Following lengthy negotiations with surrounding communities, the airport will be expanded to increase its capacity by adding a third runway. The airport is currently undergoing a major expansion, including a new terminal building and office park, to prepare for an expected increase in passengers.
