Milan Duomo -- The Duomo, Milan's church cathedral, is one of the largest churches in the world; is a surprisingly elegant mass of marble boasting 135 spires and 3,400 statues. Commissioned in 1386, by Gian Galeazzo Visconti, the Duomo was not finished until the early 1800s. The building began life as a Gothic cathedral, but over the centuries the designs went through several modifications, and the finished Duomo is a strange mixture of styles. The Duomo is the most outstanding example of Gothic-Lombard architecture. It is the largest Gothic cathedral and the second largest Catholic cathedral in the world.
The Duomo is at the centre of Milan in Piazza del Duomo (Duomo Square), and at walking distance from many of the town's other major tourist attractions.
The Duomo museum is located next to the cathedral on Piazza del Duomo (Duomo Cathedral Square) . With his twenty rooms, the Duomo’s Museum, retrace the history of this extraordinary and beautiful church cathedral in Milan Italy: the phases of his construction, the projects, the sculptures, the glass door and sacred furniture.
