Dubai - The Palm Jebel Ali Islands - United Arab Emirates ( UAE ) :

The Palm Jebel Ali Dubai -- It is located on the Jebel Ali coastal area of the emirate of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The unique man-made palm-shaped island will consist of a trunk, a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that will form a water-breaker.

The Palm Jebel Ali is more of an entertainment destination for both adults and children, which caters to both residents and tourists. The island is 50% larger than The Palm Jumeirah, and include six marinas, a 'Sea Village', a water theme park and water homes built on stilts between the fronds and the crescent.

The Water homes form a 12km chain between the Fronds and the Crescent; the extension of the Crescents size to 15.5km with a break at the top for boats to enter; the modification to the ends of the Crescent to include 'fingers' whereby the luxury apartment blocks are located. Two smaller 'pocket islands' just off each end of the Crescent host shopping facilities for residents daily needs.

Time zone -- The local time in Dubai is GMT + 4 hours. The time does not change in the summer.

Currency --The currency is the UAE dirham (dh); $1 equals about 3.50 dh, but this fluctuates so check before you depart. Dollars are generally not accepted. Taxis take currency only (no credit cards), so exchange money at the airport or find an ATM.

Language -- The official language of the UAE is Arabic according to the constitution of the country, while English is widely spoken especially in business and trade fields. Expatriates use their mother tongues but not at official level.

Electricity -- The electricity is 220/230 volts A/C and most sockets are three-pin square. Although adaptors are usually available in hotels, you may want to purchase one before you arrive.
