Central Zurich - Downtown City Center - Switzerland :

Zürich City Centre -- Zurich's has a reputation as a shopping paradise and an art centre which is home to highly renowned auction houses. It has made Zurich known throughout the world. The main shopping area is concentrated within one square kilometre in the heart of downtown Zurich. Strolling down the famous Bahnhofstrasse - one of the most beautiful shopping streets in Europe - you will find elegant boutiques, department stores, specialist shops, banks, and cafés which tempt you to linger and relax for a while.

The pedestrian streets of the Zurich Old Town contain most of the major landmarks, including winding alleyways, 16th and 17th-century houses, guildhalls and beautiful churches. The 13th-century tower of St Peter's Church has the largest clock face in Europe, while the Fraumünster Church nearby is noted for the distinctive stained-glass windows in the choir, which were created by Marc Chagall in 1970. The cities most famous landmark is the Grossmünster with its unique dual towers. Believed to be of Carolingian origin, its oldest parts date back to the late 11th century. The "Kunsthaus" (the Zurich Art Gallery) is Zurich's top address for art. It has paintings, sculptures and graphic art, mostly from the 19th & 20th centuries.

In the downtown City Centre of Zurich you can find several Churches and Museums. The main churches of Zürich include Grossmünster (the place where the Swiss Protestant Reformation was initiated by Zwingli in 1519), Fraumünster (founded in 853), St. Peter (it has the biggest clock face in Europe) and Predigerkirche (founded in 1231). You can also visit the museums of Zürich: the Swiss National Museum, Museum Bärengasse, Kunsthaus Zürich, Museum Rietberg, Museum Bellerive, Migros Museum and many others. Zürich city center offers a great opportunity to have fun in its clubs. The city is one of the European capitals of electronic music. There are also many other kinds of clubs.

Some famous theatres are located in Zurich, the most famous theatres are Zürcher Opernhaus (the Zürich Opera’s home since 1891) and Schauspielhaus Zürich (the main theatre complex of the city). Theater am Neumarkt is one of the oldest theatres of Zürich.

In the Old Town, set in the wall, is one of the few Roman ruins visible in town.
